BRITISH COUNCIL: when contacting my school(s), should I email in Spanish or English?

Hi! I've just come back from my year in Germany and when I got my school info I emailed in German :) it was by no means perfect but it set me up well to speak to staff in German. When they didn't know what I meant or wanted to make something clear the school emailed me in English.
