I think you've answered your own question there - if in doubt, always go for the opportunity of a lifetime! Life's too short. So's your year abroad!

Be honest with your friend about why you'd like to leave and why you think he/she will enjoy the internship. That way they can make an informed decision too.

You will find another great flat if you move, you will make new friends and stay in touch with the old ones (who are only an hour away when it comes down to it). You will have a brilliant story to tell and a new experience to add to your year abroad adventure list.

Grinning and bearing it isn't really fair on you or the company you're interning with, so I vote that you bite the bullet and go for it!

Never turn down the opportunity of a worthwhile adventure :)

I did the English Language Assistantship and I really didn't enjoy it. I was only working less than 12 hours a week and I was only in 3 days a week, so I managed to put up with it for 8 months. On my days off I tried to do fun things to take my mind off of it. It was worth it and I'm glad I didn't leave because I had many great experiences, built my character and saved up some money. Internships and work experience are sometimes difficult, but at least now you know one job that you don't want to do and you have some experience to put on your CV. At the end of the day, its up to you whether you think you can continue to put up with it. You could try talking to the people at your workplace? I made the mistake of not telling anyone how I felt and let things go on for too long.

I would have to move... you've got plenty of time still to build up new friends and experiences with your new internship, and if you feel that it will be more relevant to you in the long run then it's a no brainer. You can always visit your friends from your current city and vice versa, as long as you're happy to move all your stuff again! :-P
